Procedures Implemented to Prevent (COVID-19) Coronavirus Infection. Dear Parents, As we all know, by now, Westchester County is on the list of New York States' hot-zone for the outbreak of the Coronavirus. This pandemic virus, as declared by the World Health Organization, has been spreading here in the United States and around the world. What are the Experts Saying?
Medical experts at Harvard Medical School say that symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath may appear up to two weeks after exposure to the virus (Ellerin, 2020). Additionally, researchers are still studying its effects on children. Still, the initial findings based on the data available now is that younger children tend to develop mild symptoms from the virus while others develop pneumonia (Rio, 2020); however, adults with certain underlying medical conditions are more susceptible to contracting the virus. See below for updates on children. What measures am I really Taking? As a matter of precaution, I have implemented some measures to prevent any transmission when providing childcare, or when not providing care. These measures are not only necessary to protect you and your children but also mine as well. Stocking Up for Cleaning We now have a decent amount of paper towels, hand soaps, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes in stock. We also stocked in more Clorox, pine sol, and Lysol spray to help in cleaning surfaces. These are all of course hidden away from children's reach. Rigorous cleaning times are at least twice a day when children are not in my care- usually from 5 am to 6.30 am and from 8 pm to 9.30 pm and on weekends; otherwise, it will be moved to a different time. The In-Betweens Additionally, subsequent surface cleanings do occur in between the time listed above and when children are in my care. In this scenario, we utilize the disinfecting wipes and soap to clean the surfaces and toys, and we avoid any spraying of aerosol spray like Lysol when they (children) are in my care. Throughout the day, I wipe their hands with the disinfecting wipes, so they are always clean all the time. The areas we usually clean are the play areas/sitting room, sleeping area, kitchen areas, children's room, toys, chairs, and mats, etc. Finally, parents, we will continue to maintain our strict policy regarding any sick child with a high temperature. This includes keeping them at home and/or contacting you for immediate pickup up if anyone becomes sick, among others. I will continue to update this page if there is any new information or will send you text messages in that regard. Thank YOU Ruthy.
